College wins AONTAS star award

We are pleased to announce that we recently one an AONTAS star award for our adult education projects.

**Jim McNamara, college director says:**

We are glad to receive the award particularly for the students of all ages who have contributed to the college in various ways over the past fifteen years.

Many of our graduates are now growing organic food and for them as well as the people of Dromcollogher who welcome our students, it’s another form of recognition of the co-operative spirit and collective enterprise that is a tradition of the area.

The college staff has over the years developed a range of courses to serve people who have an interest in quality food, in growing and in sustainable living skills. We now have a full range of courses which may be taken on a full-time, part-time of Distance Learning basis.

Having a learner centered approach has allowed students become involved in a variety of projects.

The courses at the college are open to adult students of all ages and nationalities and range from one day events to National Certificate and Diploma standard.

We are celebrating the week and the award locally next Friday 26th with an open talk on Food and Growing for health see the details attached.

Trees for sale

The tree nurseries at An-tIonad Glas are currently full of trees that are looking for a new home. The stock consists mostly of Ash and Oak, but there are other species available in smaller quantities. Our hope is to clear out as much of the nurseries as possible to make room for new stock and to establish more trees in nature.

The value of trees – particularly Ash (with it’s hunger for carbon) can not be overstated in these times. Our hope is to find one or two customers with enough acreage to plant a large volume of trees – e.g. a REPs farmer. Alternatively we will also sell the trees individually or in smaller bundles.

The inventory and price list are set out below. Students of the collage are entitled to a 30% discount.

If you or someone you know is interested please contact Barry or Dermot at the college or directly at 086 336 9144.

Bare root trees will be available for sale until mid- March.

Sincerely,

Dermot Carroll
