An t-Ionad Glas, The Organic College are inviting everyone along to the Dromcollogher Organic Picnic on Sunday 11th of September. The Picnic takes place from 12 noon to 4pm and admission is free! The event is organised to co-celebrate the beginning of National Organic Week and the 20th anniversary of the Organic College.

It will be a great day out for families with lots of things on offer from nature detectives, face painting, Puppet Shows and Pet Farm for kids and a host of free talks, workshops and demo’s on organic gardening, native trees, vintage threshing, living willow weaving, bee keeping and herbs to name but a few. The aim of the event is to raise awareness about Organic food and farming. There will be plenty of great Organic food on the day with a host of excellent producers being showcased. Set in the fantastic location of the Organic College in Dromcollogher, the overall theme is “Good for Nature, Good for you!” and the focus of the day will be on local organic food production.

Organic College Director Jim McNamara said “We are thrilled to be in a position to host such a positive event, one which will show what we have been doing here at the College for the last 20 years.” Sinead Neiland Event co-ordinator said “There has been a fantastic response from everyone here at the College and past students who want to celebrate all that is positive about organic food and we are all looking forward to a fantastic day out for all”.

The event has been funded by the Department of Agriculture (Organic Unit) as well as sponsorship from IOFGA and the Organic College.

Organic Picnic Preparations Progressing

The past two weeks have been hectic for students and staff of the College in preparation for the 20th Anniversary of the College.

Most of the oats have been cut with everyone taking a turn at using the scythe.  Sheaf making, tying and stacking is well in progress with a view to threshing on Sunday.

The tree nursery, vegetables, herbs, polytunnel’s, food, music  platform and children’s areas being prepared and the forecast for the week-end is good too.  The picnic runs from 12noon to 4pm. But don’t forget “No Parking” at the College, we have a shuttle bus from Hazelwood College just off the Charleville Road.  Its planned to be a good family day for everyone.  Join us if you are free!

The event has been funded by the Department of Agriculture (Organic Unit) as well as sponsorship from IOFGA and the Organic College.
