On the 11th of this month we celebrated our 21st birthday.  To anyone else this would cause great party with loads of food and beverages.  But at our College we were in the midsts of getting ready for celebrating Organic Week and the great day nearly passed us buy without realising it.

On Thursday the 13th September we celeberated Organic Week with a combination of events. We had talks given by Jerome Scanlan M.C.C. Cathaoirleach Limerick Co. Council.  Mary Lynch. M.Agr.Sc Organic farmer grower and teacher.  Jerry O Brien Dromcollogher Credit Union and Claire O Connor Chairperson of the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association, Grower and co-founder of Manna Organic shop Tralee. Talks were on harvesting and gardening as well as the steps to go through to have your land organically certified.  It also covered what was happening this in this years organic week and the concerns by our communities who are facing closure of many long established facilities including banks, businesses and even some Garda stations.

The focus was therefore on organics in the community and the college is glad to be launching its on-site gardening shop ‘An Siopa Glas’.  This was a combination of work and dedication to getting it up and going, many people over the years have contacted the College looking for Organic seed and potatoes.  This shop was set up with the hopes of making things easier for student and public alike.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in getting everything ready, cooking food, painting and decorating and all the other people who worked away quietly in the background.
