Earlier this year we planted our potato crop for 2012. There was plenty of help available on the day and we sowed thirty nine drills with five varietes: Arran Victory, Sarpo Axona, Lady Balfour, Setanta and Toulca.
It was a bad summer for potatoes with heavy rain and blight a real problem for growth. We noted our blight resistant varieties yield higher than the non resistant varieties. In late September with the early potatoes gone its was time to harvest our main crop thanks to our new first years who did great work on the day we lifted our crop from the ground. We then sorted, graded, and stored our potatoes. They are available for sale at our market in the square in Dromcollogher on Fridays from 9am to 1pm. They are also available from our shop ‘An Siopa Glas’ in the collage grounds.
