This week at the annual gathering of Beekeepers from around Ireland and abroad, Catherine Caulwell, teacher of sustainable food production at the Organic College, was elected Honey Queen for the coming year.
Our congratulations to Catherine, who is well qualified for the role as a teacher of Beekeeping and a holder of a Master’s Degree in microbiology. Her duties will include promotion of Beekeeping and honey as a special food, at shows and events around the country. Catherine together with her colleagues at the Organic College has developed the first State Certified Beekeeping course in the country at FETAC/QQI level 5. Over twenty students have completed this course in the past year and many are now on their way to becoming new Beekeepers.
This course has been greatly assisted by the expert skills and commitment of Mr Andy Burke Lombardstown, also included in the photo.
Course places at the college for the coming year are filling fast but a few still remain. Details are available at 06383604 mornings
