“Prize Winning Produce at Organic College Open Day”
For gardeners and food lovers the annual Open Day at An tIonad Glas, The Organic College in Dromcollogher next Sunday, July 19th is the place to be. Running from 2-5pm, there will be tours of the Organic Gardens and information on Organic Gardening and Beekeeping.
The theme of the afternoon is “Growing, Preserving & Adding Value to Garden Produce”. There will be tastings of produce and An Siopa Glas will be selling Organic vegetables, fruit, herbs, plants, jams & preserves, all grown and produced by the students at the College. The ‘Wheatgrass Fairy’ will also be there with a demo on how to grow & use Wheatgrass.
At the recent Charleville Show the Organic College students won several prizes for their vegetables and preserves including 1st Prize for Collection of Vegetables; 1st Prize for Potatoes; 2nd Prize for Strawberries; 1st Prize for Honey; 1st Prize for Tomato Chutney; 3rd Prize for Strawberry Jam; 3rd prize for Marmalade.
Students learn to how to grow and make jams etc. as part of their course and they are delighted to gain recognition with their prize winning produce.
